Thanks! I'll definitely try this. I hoped someone would come-up with some way to tether a tablet through BT like this. I'll try it out with my DroidX tonight and report back on how it worked

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Any Regrets 8Ger's??« on: July 23, 2012, 07:51:38 AM »
I went with the 16 Gig N7, and I have zero regrets. I download plenty of audio and video podcasts, so this'll chew through 5 Gigs or more easy since some of the video podcasts can be 300-500 Megs each.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: What's On Your Wish List For the Next Nexus?« on: July 23, 2012, 07:48:41 AM »
Here's my wish list in order of importance to me:
- HDMI Output - Rear facing camera - Memory slot of some sort - Replaceable battery (for those VERY long trips) 49
Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Is N7 always on or does it turn off completely in standby?« on: July 23, 2012, 07:47:04 AM »
Thanks ... I'm looking for a dock though that'll have the N7 in Landscape and use the docking pins for charging and/or audio. The Clock app that's preloaded on the N7 actually works great as an alarm clock, and if I could find a Landscape dock I think this might replace my 20+ year old alarm clock quite nicely. Also the alarm works great, though I now wish the N7 had vibrate which is often how I wake-up with my phone when I need to get up sooner than my wife. Also yes as others have said the N7 does stay active when in standby, and the alarm works great even when the display is off. But the clock seems to stay on all night when I turn it on, which again is perfect. 50
Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Mine was reboxed? Where's the free game/credit.« on: July 21, 2012, 08:51:19 AM »
Mine also had two layers of tape, but the $25 gift card and movie were on my Google Play account after logging in.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: New to Android. How do I retrieve downloaded items?« on: July 18, 2012, 03:53:57 PM »
It might save the images to the Download folder on the file system, not sure. Download ES File Explorer File Manager from Google Play and you should be able to browse the file system and see if your images are in the /Download directory. I know on my Kindle Fire that's how it works, and from there I can set Images as Wallpaper directly from the File Manager app.
I'll test this tonight after I get home from work... I have the N7 with me, but it's not online so I can't download anything now :-/ 52
Nexus 7 General Discussion / Storage on the N7 -- some odd numbers here« on: July 18, 2012, 03:49:28 PM »
I have the 16 Gig N7, but here's what Storage shows in the Settings menu:
Total Space: 13.24GB Apps - 358MB Pictures,Videos - 19.59MB Audio - 200KB Downloads - 92KB Available: 12.64GB Given it's showing I only have 13.24 Gigs to work with on a 16 gig device is that other 2.8 Gigs used for RAM or for GPU storage? I'd be interested to find a tech document showing how the memory is utilized, but thus far I can't find any such document. So with all this I'm definitely glad I went with the 16 Gig else I'd be closer to 4 Gigs of free space which just doesn't seem like much. What does everyone else's show? 53
Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Best N7 Browser?« on: July 18, 2012, 03:40:33 PM »
On my DroidX I use Dolphin HD for the most part, but I really like the Chrome browser on the N7... I'll probably install Dolphin HD just to have it there, and IIRC Flash was baked into Dolphin so I wonder if it'll work on the N7? I need to test that out.

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: Car charger?« on: July 18, 2012, 03:37:35 PM »
I'm using the same charger both in the house and car that came with my DroidX, and it's working. I just figured the USB charging standards were the same across all devices, and whether the DroidX or even our Kindle Fire charger all seem to work fine with the N7.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: how to log out!?« on: July 18, 2012, 03:27:54 PM »
I'm not sure that there's a way to log out (someone correct me if there is), but you can go under Settings > Google > select your email under Accounts, then click the three dots on the upper right an choose Remove Account. This should detach your account from the device.
Alternatively if you use the 2-step verification through Google you can create a password specifically for the N7 then revoke that password when you want to disconnect the N7 from your account. That's probably the better option since you can 'log out' even if you don't have the device in hand. 56
Nexus 7 Connect (MicroUSB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Pogo Pin) / Re: Syncing N7 to Linux and OSX via MTP using USB« on: July 18, 2012, 11:27:16 AM »
Found this video today from XDA about the UMS vs MTP. It sheds some light on this whole debacle though it's talking more about the Galaxy S then the Nexus 7. And did I mention the girl is rather cute???
So I'm still in search of some way to add UMS to the Nexus 7... hopefully it'll come soon. 57
Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: TreeGloo Nexus 7 Case« on: July 18, 2012, 08:54:53 AM »
This looks amazing! I'd be curious to see reviews on their covers, but I like how you can customize every part of it. Anyone using this?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Any unexpected surprises after getting your N7?« on: July 18, 2012, 08:32:20 AM »I think if you unlock and root you there is probably a way to turn USB mass storage on. I'm a contrarian of sorts, I can find con's on anything I guess :-D Most of the things I noted are gotchas I pretty much expected (except for no UMS support), but in all the N7 is an amazing little device for sure. Also I'm with you, I'm glad I went with the 16 Gig unit too. I'll probably drop a few gigs of Music on it as well, plus I'm a fanatic Podcast addict so I'll probably download a few hundred megs a week on it from that. 59
Nexus 7 News - - Front Page Comments and Discussion / Re: Google Wallet Update Being Pushed To Nexus 7« on: July 18, 2012, 08:04:56 AM »Apparently you don't need to be connected via wi-fi to use 'Google Wallet'. The payment terminal does the contacting of your account. All you need is your device (tablet/phone) and no 3G/4G or Wi-Fi connection is necessary. Of course you do need to have Wi-Fi access at home when you originally set up your account but that's all. That's actually pretty swift and good to know... Then thumbs up all the way :-D 60
Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: Video Orientation« on: July 18, 2012, 08:02:05 AM »
Open the notification bar and there's an icon with two circular arrows and either a rectangle or lock between the settings icon and date. If its a lock then your orientation is locked in Portrait... tap it and it should turn into a tilted rectangle which will allow the screen to go into landscape. The home screen won't rotate though without some work but most everything else should.
Mine was locked in Portrait when I got it which threw me too Let me know if this doesn't work.
