Some wifi problems can be caused by radio frequency interference (rfi). I've got an rf detector that I use to find noise so that my stratocaster won't hum.
The worst rfi that I've found comes from old crt type televisions and fluorescent lights on dimmers designed for incandescents. Any appliances with worn brushes on the motors. Old transformers with small internal shorts between windings.

Try a usb extension cable if you have an old tv. I haven't checked any plasma types but lcds are great.
A cheap rf detector would be an am radio tuned between stations, or a single coil guitar pickup with a small portable amplifier. The one I use is available from electrical supplies and some hw stores for around 100$, more if you want the signal generator to trace broken wire locations.

Or it could be the antenna, like you say.

Oops, hdmi extension cable.

I think i heard before that some people thought the WiFi was broken on the 808 because it was shoddy. I know there are several reviews that slam on the signal strength even right next to the source. I've never had too many problems with mine. I did a only once a couple days ago. I gave it s hotspot equally distanced as the router, and it was fine. Most likely interference.

I bought a wifi repeater that I'm returning today. It wouldn't play nice with my router. I need to quit bottom feeding, there's a reason things go on sale.

My soldering skills suck, so I gave up on soldering the coax to the router antenna, but I did rig up two pairs of 1/2 wave  antennae. I have  a steady, if weak signal most of the time.  I've seen four of the neighborhood SSIDs, and speedtest download results range from 11500 kbps to 500 kbps, and typically around 4000-5000 kbps. It isn't great, but it's better than OEM, and is at least functional now.

Ryan, I ran a couple of CPU tweaking programs, and they all indicate the max speed is 1.6ghz.

Darrell,
So you are currently clocked at 1.6ghz on Finless 1.5? I was informed that ROM was ran slower. What speed does Antutu report?

Ryan, I'm apparently clocked @ 1.008 ghz. I got Antutu results of 9866 with the OEM ROM, & mid-9900s - 10133? with the Finless 1.5a ROM.

I'm currently running Dero's 1080 p kernel with the Finless 1.5a ROM . It runs slower than the stock 720 p Finless 1.5a kernel & ROM, as expected

Testing the Dero kernel /Finless ROM at different maximum clock speeds gave the following Antutu results:

Clock   Antutu  scores
1008    6783, 8398
1600    8283, 8532
1200    8404

Other than the first 6783 score,  the others do not seem to vary in proportion to their clock speeds.

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow (49.6 mpg over 38k miles in  Scion xB)

Update: I succeeded in soldering the antenna wire of my old router antenna to my MK808.   Its performance  is vastly superior. My  signal  strength is unchanged, but  data download speeds are consistently around 10000  kbps, the same as my N7s get.

I'm satisfied now with  my MK808. I can stream movies with it with no dropouts.

Cool, the 10000 kilo bauds is probably your isp cap. 2000 kbps upload?

That's it, Matt.  10000 kbps downloading, and 1600 kbps uploading are normally what I see.  Is this mid-grade?  I think I'm paying for more than the basic DSL package.  I see talk about 65 mbs connection speed, but that's a theoretical/ideal capacity?

I believe the 65mb/s is the connection to the router itself. A theoretical capability.

Thanks for the data you collected Darell. This is really interesting.  You would expect the scores to be proportional to speed. There's a breakdown of the scores. I think I'm going to play with there speeds and collect some data myself with different kernels and ROMs. The bottom line of mine still stinks on the stock ROM.

I'm on att uverse elite, which is 5mbs down and 1 mbs up. 25$ /month. 250gB per month. Baud, bit, byte. Baud has checksums and packet resends so it doesn't exactly equal bits. My router is 802.11g with 54mb connection. Yours must be n.

I've got a uverse upgrade Internet package.

I suspected my earlier test results, so I retested. This time I went below 1.008.ghz, and the results correlate nicely to clock speed. They also show my MK808 CPU runs @  1.6.ghz.
Max clock  Antutu
1600............ 8264
1416............ 8247
1210............ 7302, 7379
1008............ 6901
. 816............ 6087
. 604............ 4558
