Do You Plan On Rooting Your Nexus 7?
« on: July 05, 2012, 07:07:00 AM »
Do you plan on rooting your Nexus 7? Do you plan on sticking with the 'out of the box' OS with no changes?  Perhaps you're curious about rooting but just don't know enough about it or feel confident or 'tech savvy' enough to do it yourself?  Let us know your thoughts.  We're curious what percentage of forum members plan on rooting compared to those that will stick with the stock Nexus 7 as it comes from the factory.

Since rooting voids the warranty, I plan on waiting for a bit to make sure nothing is wrong with the tablet.

After that, the answer is 100% YES !!!!!

Well, still not sure what advantage there is in 'rooting'.  I'd have to have a step-by-step guide, for sure.  I've seen some examples of rooting instructions and they seemed very cryptic indeed.  But if I saw the advantage I'd be tempted to give it a go....

If I commit on buying a Nexus 7, the first exploit that is available will find my tablet rooted. Yes it voids your warranty, but you seek a solution that allows rooting to be removed and if your device fails and cannot boot your root is no longer discoverable.

Edit:

I decided on the 16 gig version and pre-ordered mine.

Interesting results...  The fear of bricking my devices is what keeps me away from rooting them, so I'll probably keep the N7 stock for the most part.  Besides from what I see most people root their devices to use the stock version of Android, which this will have outta the gate, so what advantage is there in rooting it?

Now if HDMI support can be added through the docking pins that may be a reason to root...  That's the one feature the N7 lacks that I really wish they had added.

I've rooted a device before, but won't root my Nexus 7 unless I have to. Also, I can't root a tablet I don't have yet.

I would love to root, but I can't just yet. I'm running windows 8,consumers eval. edition. The one click root doesn't work. I also have a different build JR 003D,so I guess it may be a few months.

Interesting, I will plug my N7 into my Windows 8 evaluation system and see if it can be rooted by the manual method.

Me too.  Still worked fine just selecting 003C on the toolkit.

Just might do this once someone with more experience than myself will offer details, would like to take advantage of the mini-usb port options.

I'm a long time Android user, well my N7 that I've had for nearly a week is my third Android device.

My first was Sony Ericsson's first foray into Android, the Xperia X10i and you had to be rooted for it to even work properly, well at least to undo the major lag SE's Rachel UI caused the system.

My Galaxy S2 is my current Android phone is also rooted, after experiencing root privileges I couldn't live without them.
Also running a custom ROM on my SGS2, Pure AOKP v3.0 Milestone 6.
As great as the SGS2 is, Samsung's awful Gingerbread theming of ICS is what convinced me to to flash custom ROM's on my SGS2.
For those that haven't used custom ROM's, the likes of AOSP ROM's like Cyanogen Mod and AOKP ROM's make a great deal of difference to the stock AOSP Google ROM's with tweaks and mods making the users experience more refined and enhanced.

After all this I was adiment I wasn't going to root my N7. With a rooted phone and missing the ability to use certain apps that I wanted to use but which root prevented, I decided I wasn't going to root my N7.
I think I lasted 2 days, the two main apps (Sky Go and Barclays banking) I wanted to use aren't atm compatible with the N7 and after installing a few games like NOVA 3, ME Infiltrator & Deadspace and nearly filling the N7's internal memory with game data I decided to to root so I could use Chaifires StickMount.

The rest as they say is history. lol
