Nexus 7 Ordering and Shipping / Re: Ship Date?
« on: July 13, 2012, 11:19:50 AM »
If you call Google Wallet support, at this time, you will get a message saying, that the first wave of Nexus 7's are shipping today, 13Jul2013, with all pre-orders shipped within 3 business days. I will admit that the $13.99 shipping charge bites at bit, but that will just make me reluctant to pre-order any item in the future. I pre-ordered mine on 06Jul2012 so if I get it next week, I don't have much to complain about from a time of delivery standpoint.

It was not noted how the screen shots were made. Now a FYI; Screenshot ER, from the Google Play Store, which does require rooting, makes screen shots an easy task. Here is one from my TPT using Screenshot ER, Click on the image if viewing in a web browser to enlarge:

I have seen some of the white back I/O special edition Nexus 7's give to developers bring the premium price you mentioned.

Youtube's iframe embed code detects the code your browser or device supports and displays it in either Flash or HTML5. Which is the reason Youtube works. Just a FYI.

Welcome to the forum jodi_au. I think you will be pleased with the development we will see for the rooted N7. XDA Developers is buzzing with activity.

Adobe is stopping Flash support and is endorsing HTML5. Their thinking is that Flash is outdated and HTML5 is a better alternative.

Did this come from a pre-ordered Nexus 7?

Google I/O edition Nexus 7 from what I read.

Most tablets use a captive display which responds to touch, so a captive stylus is basically an extension of your finger. If your finger and the stylus touch the screen the captive screen registers both touches. For an example, if you are trying to write with a stylus on a captive screen and touch the screen with your hand the captive screen interprets your hard touch as writing as well. One would think that the stylus would improve accuracy with typing, but the sense technology in some of the better keyboard apps are far better, IMO. Tablets with true pen functionality rely on an N-Trig secondary screen layer, which disables the captive feature of the outer screen when the tip of the electronic pen is in the proximity of the screen, which is known as "palm rejection.” I will discuss keyboard alternatives in the application topic.

If you are wondering what the screen image looks like on the Nexus 7, here are some screen shots.

Note Ultimate Rotate has not been optimized for the Nexus 7 at this time.

Personally i was quite impressed with Google's business model for the Nexus 7. Certainly they leveraged the Android OS and the Google Play Store, but the impressive thing they did was to break away from the iPad pricing structure, which has over priced previous Android tablets. When one compares the hardware and the $200 - $250 price tag for the Nexus 7 to other Android tablets you can bet that the consumer will benefit in the long run.

I have omitted the video as it is already posted, but GeeksareSexy.net says:

Nexus 7 Smart Cover is on its way

Those who (probably quite wisely) decided not to buy into the iPad “premium” product sell and instead went for the “cheap but good” marketing of Google’s Nexus 7 might have been lamenting the fact that there was no Smart Cover alternative for their nifty new tablet.

The Apple Smart Cover is a foldaway cover that is designed to automatically turn your device on and off as you remove and apply it to the surface. How? Magnetization that also handily gets the cover to sit quite securely on the surface of the iPad.

Apple has a patent in the design and Google is unlikely to want to get into any more legal lockdowns with their technological brother. However, it would seem that the functionality is there: the video below demonstrates how the Nexus 7 has a corner which responds to a magnet.

You can probably expect third party cover creators to be including this functionality in cases very soon (if they haven’t already).

It will be interesting to see if "Big G" has not pulled the plug on orders from Staples and Office Depot and if they do not make sure that their pre-orders hit doors before Staples and Office Depot. So if you pre-ordered from Google Play, I would be feeling really good at this point and if you see your credit card charged by tomorrow feel really good.  ;D

The latest from Staples from my online chat. As you can see they have reached their pre-order limit, but they will be available again for order by the 15th and include the $25 gift card. Office Depot is still accepting pre-orders at this time.:

6:32:10 PM Jim: Initial Question/Comment: I see the Nexus 7 currently shows out of stock and yesterday it was available for pre-order.

6:32:15 PM System: Welcome to Staples.com Live Chat. We will be with you shortly.

6:32:15 PM System: We ask for your assistance: please do NOT send credit card information through chat. Should credit information be required for a transaction, a Staples associate will contact you for the required information

6:32:15 PM System: Todd has joined this session!

6:32:15 PM System: Connected with Todd

6:33:10 PM Jim: If you pre-ordered the Nexus 7 does it ship from Google or Staples?

6:33:10 PM Todd:  Hello Jim, I hope you’re doing well. I’d be happy to assist you with the Nexus 7.

6:34:00 PM Todd: I’m very sorry, but we have reached the limit of presale orders we can accept for the Nexus 7 tablet. We will be offering the item live on Staples.com by 7/15 at the latest, though.

6:34:40 PM Todd: It would ship from our warehouses

6:35:10 PM Todd However, you would still get the $25 gift card if you ordered with us.

6:36:01 PM Jim: If you order on the 15th do you still get the gift card?

6:37:30 PM Todd: I believe, from the information available to me, that you do still receive the gift card.

6:37:50 PM Jim: Thanks Todd

6:38:10 PM Todd: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can help you with today?

6:38:34 PM Jim: That is all. Thanks again
