The new BBC Media Player for Android phones and tablets mentioned here, appears to have been made available already in the Play Store.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Re: Screen Unresponsive
« on: September 19, 2012, 02:17:59 PM »
Try tapping the double squares at the bottom of the screen and swipe the running apps to the side to close them. I know Android is supposed to allow resources as required, but I have seen it immediately correct sluggish response. Possibly some app is not releasing resources correctly.
That doesn't show running apps just a list of recently opened apps.

Also, if in landscape mode, you have to drag up or down to remove.

You need to install something like WATCHDOG LITE (available from Google Play) to monitor running apps.

Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: Re: Problem playing videos on Nexus 7
« on: September 19, 2012, 02:12:38 PM »
Yes, I did try it and found that I had to change from HW decoding to SW or System decoding to play avi videos. Also, it did play my mkv file, but the only mkv file on my tablet was a music video of Shakira, so I watched it 4 times, just to make sure it worked ok...... ;-)  You cannot be too careful with video tryout.

LOL :-)

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Home screen rotation
« on: September 19, 2012, 01:37:05 AM »
Taken from "Guide to Auto-Rotation for the Nexus 7 Home Screen and App Tray":

"Uses the Ultimate Rotation Control App available at Google Play and offers a 7 day trail with a permanent license for $3 and does not require Root. Available Here. "

Don't you mean 3Gb storage ??

I wish these little beasts had 3Gb RAM !!

When I had my ASUS Transformer Prime, there was a firmware update (ICS v9.4.2.21 I believe) that introduced an unlock settings function related to the system bar, which allowed you to hide/show system information.

You could hide/show the system bar via a swipe of the bar.

This would effectively disable the home/back buttons, which was useful when watching a video, so that you could use the seek-bar without pressing home by accident.

Is this, or something similar, available for the (un-rooted) ASUS Nexus 7 ??

TIA.

Nexus 7 Help / Screen response lags sometimes (CHROME ??)
« on: September 18, 2012, 07:05:52 AM »
Anyone else notice occasional screen response being slow, or non-responsive ??

I see it a lot in CHROME (OK, I could use another browser), but sometimes I see it in other apps as well.

In CHROME, when you touch a link, nothing happens and you have to touch it a 2nd or 3rd time.

Is there any touch/screen calibration on the Nexus 7 ??

I am running stock firmware (I don't want to root before anyone asks :) )

TIA.

I think it's because it's Jelly Bean not that it's a Nexus 7.

Nice to see another Man of Kent/Kentish Man  8)

Nexus 7 Android OS (Jelly Bean) / Re: Flash 11.1-111115011
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:06:34 AM »
I actually used a modded version of the flash.apk from xda developers. There is a guide under the hacks and mod topic to installing Flash.

It's not a modded version - it's just the latest ICE CREAM SANDWICH version (v11.1.115.17).

See here for further details.

You don't have a username/password set on your network ??

No Chrome does not support Flash, that's why xScope is used and I believe Firefox beta also works with Flash or so I have read.

As for whether the Flash apk is modded, I don't think it is because the most recent update of xScope, upon installation gives you the option to download the Flash apk from XDA or from Adobe's website.

No it's not modded, it's just the latest Play Store version that is posted on the XDA site as stated by noodles2k.

The guide at the beginning of the topic actually, leads you through downloading and installing a modified flash.apk from xda developers that runs on JB.

Do we know what's been modded ??

In the first few pages of that thread, some people are saying it's not modded at all, and then on page 3 there's a new version.

Also, no matter what version of flash is installed under JB, it is still not supported in CHROME for Android.

Hi mandm.

Like all devices, or software apps, it will ask for the correct credentials so that it can connect correctly.

It's just validating the security.

If you need more information, please let us know.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Re: Nexus 9?

Why not pick up an Asus Transformer TF300? It is the perfect combination, I have both the Nexus 7 and the Asus Transformer tablets.

I purchased a Nexus 7 as a stop-gap until the ASUS Transformer Infinity was released, but afrer having the Nexus 7 for 2 months, I've decided that the Infinity is not worth £600.
