Maybe I'll see what Best Buy has for it soon.
Best buy tends to be way overpriced, gives you a real hard time on returns.  Their house brand is dynex, recently, I looked at an sd reader that was a $30 part, that was 1 on meritline and others.  They also kill you on cables.  If you need cables - monoprice is excellent.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: how to get books?
« on: July 15, 2012, 06:31:16 PM »
I assume you are talking about illegal download books and not google books.  Google books are always in the cloud and you can select "download" and put it on any Android device you want.
Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Personally i was quite impressed with Google's business model for the Nexus 7. Certainly they leveraged the Android OS and the Google Play Store, but the impressive thing they did was to break away from the iPad pricing structure, which has over priced previous Android tablets. When one compares the hardware and the $200 - $250 price tag for the Nexus 7 to other Android tablets you can bet that the consumer will benefit in the long run.
IPAD charges $100 to go from 16 to 32 gig (or $50 per 8gig), to go from 32 to 64gig  it is $100( or $25 per 8gig).  So when the evil empire does it - it is evil, but when the white queen does it, it is a blessing on us all.
And some of us need 32gig for our use or 64gig.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Re: downloading movie
« on: July 11, 2012, 01:18:04 PM »
Sam, I am curious...when you download a movie rental (from Google, Amazon, etc.) does it eventually expire?  Surely they know you have downloaded it to your device, right?

Through Amazon you have 30 days to start watching the movie and when you first click Play your 24-48 hour period starts.  After that the movie does expire and auto deletes from your device (More info).  As for movies you buy, those stay on your device definitively, but I assume there's a limit to the number of devices you can put it on similar to how the eBooks work.

But I really hope the Amazon video client works on the N7 because since I've had the Kindle Fire for almost a year now and our BluRay player has the Amazon client as well we've started building a decent collection of content through them.

Which Bluray player are you using with the Amazon app, they used to be rare.

So, I go into Staples on 33rd street NYC yesterday, 7/9/12. First employee I see (who looks like a heroin addict), I say, "I hear you are taking pre-orders on the Nexus 7", he says "Huh ?". I said, "Can you get me someone who knows about Tablets ?". He calls a "Tech" guy over, I say to him "I hear you are taking pre-orders on the Nexus 7", he says "Pre-orders on the Who ?". I promptly left the store.

I took this as a sign, and I'm just going to stick with Gamestop. There was no way I could be guaranteed that I'd get my Nexus 7 before my cruise on 7/15 from Staples, so I have no problem waiting for it from Gamestop. Also, Gamestop probably won't get them by 7/22, my first day back, so I'm ok with waiting until they do get them.
The Gamestop folk usually at least play games.  Staples and Best Buy just pay minimum and want you to sell the extended care plans.

Great info, thanks for posting... Since their profit does seem to be higher on the 16 Gig model I wish they would've invested alittle into an HDMI port or rear camera on it which would've given people more of an incentive to buy the $249 unit.
Their model is to use the cloud - so they will not do that.  The sd addon is probably less than a dollar.

notice that the case is landscape and the Nexus is portrait

Gillette razor model, give it away and sell the blades.

It really is a no brainer. How can you even compare the Nexus 7 to the Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet. It's like comparing the iPhone 4s to the iPhone 3g. Next generation products SHOULD always be a better product than the last generation products.
Suppose you were traveling in China or going on a cruise.  You would have no Wifi and no way to get additional content, and you would not be able to take additional content with you without taking other measures.  And no easy way to move pictures to your tablet. Remember the tablet is designed for wifi.  At least the Nook has a micro sd slot. I would love a Nexus, but I carry a lot of content with me.  And I do not think I would want various dongles hanging out.  If there was a tiny micro usb that would change things.  Right now, it is a similar issue I have with the Ipad, but the Nexus is not locked down.  So it is not a slam dunk for some of us.

Also, did you not say you are going on a cruise, how do you plan to get content, as wifi is slow and very expensive on a cruise.  Although you will have your kindle fire for content.

This is our current society where everyone is out for a quick buck.  If I were google, I would explain that they would be blacklisted forever.

I'm looking forward to using it for reading books on.  I've just learnt that I can store all my books in mobi format in my drop box account and access them through my Galaxy S3 whenever I want to read them by moving them to my kindle folder.  I'm assuming that I will be able to do the same when my Nexus 7 arrives.

Hope you are not planning on using wifi on your cruise, it is very expensive and slow.

The new model is hardware is just a platform.  So you want to close it as much as possible.  Think about it, Apple makes 30 percent of all purchases no USB or SD.  Nexus 7 has no sd card, nor does the Kindle
tablet), both are locked as much as possible to the infrastructure.  The Kindle to Amazon, the Nexus 7 to Google, the Nook to B&N (although it has a micro SD).
The Amazon reader use Mobi format.
The conclusion is that Companies want to lock you into their infrastructure.
Thus the reason we do not see sd on the Nexus.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Why we need auxiliary storage
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:45:42 AM »
Just thought of it.  Ever go on a cruise.  Wifi is ridiculously expensive.  Information follows

Norwegian Cruise Line offers a package of 33 minutes for $25 (75 cents a minute) or 250 minutes for $100 (40 cents a minute). Remember that you almost always use more minutes than you think you need. At times, Internet connections at sea can be agonizingly slow, resulting in longer than usual times to load pages or send messages.
