Apparently they checked the files one by one. I don't have the URL but I'm pretty sure it was on Xda where you can search for it.

I'm far from being an expert but I believe I read somewhere that the OTA update patches all the files correctly but fails at the very end when it sets the permissions. So you would be running the latest version but it will still say it is the earlier version. As I said, I'm a newbie but maybe this will shed some light for you.

Not only that. They sent me links where the problem was discussed as happening when certain settings were selected on the Nexus. Really remarkable service.

Just heard back from the vendor.
They've already refunded my purchase cost including s/h and will send me a replacement case without my sending the defective one back.
This is truly exemplary support and service! I thought others should know about it.

Thanks. That's very helpful. Will work with it.

I previously used a nexus 7, 1st generation with a moko case which I loved. Therefore when I purchased my nexus 7.2 (2nd generation) I purchased the same Moko slim case for my new Nexus 7, 2nd generation.
The case looks exactly like the first except for the size. What is strange is that I have noticed that when I open the case fully - so that it's folded back on itself - there will be instances when the Nexus 7 will freeze. No longer reacts to touch or keyboard. Some apps would even crash when I use the Nexus 7 in the case that way. I discovered that if I lift the folded lid of the case a little off the back the freezing stops and the apps no longer crash. So obviously the magnet in the case is either defective (too strong or too weak) causing the Nexus 7 to malfunction. Unless this is a defect in the Nexus 7, 2nd generation itself.
Anyone else has had this happen?

Yes as bird said you have no custom recovery which is needed to perform a nandroid backup.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
thank you both. I had assumed that was automatically done when WUGfresh rooted me. But I guess not.

Nexus 7.2 (2013), rooted with WUGfresh toolkit, verified root successfully.
Tried to do a Nandroid backup by rebooting into recovery but I get the image of the robot with a red triangle on his belly.
Tried the same thing using rom toolbox and get the same red triangle on robot.
What does it mean and how do I get to do a Nandroid backup?
Thanks

I assume that for those of us who are rooted we need to unroot first. Correct?

The old n7 will charge slower at 1.3 a. The new n7 will draw only the amps it needs, shouldn't matter. Either will charge from any standard USB source at differing rates of charge. Even from the .5 a. computer plug-in. Check the warranty to be sure.
thank you.

That's what I thought. I was just worried that the higher amperage might damage something on the new nexus.

Thank you.
Does that make them interchangeable?

Are the AC chargers for the 2012 and 2013 versions interchangeable?
As as usual the charger cords for the Nexus are very short. So long ago I purchased a charger with a longer cord for the 2012 Nexus and wonder if I can now use it with the newer 2013 Nexus. It looks like the two supplied chargers might be different. The older nexus charger is 5 volts and 2 amps. The newer Asus supplied AC charger specs are hard to read but they seem to have different voltage/amperage written on them.
Does anyone know?

I tried to use Tasker to turn my nexus 7 pattern lockscreen off when I am connected to my home wifi but it worked erratically even using the secure plug in. I think I recall an app that could do that but cannot find it in play. Anyone know of such an app or a Tasker profile that works for this?
Thanks
