>Settings>Storage.   IIRC. there are MTP and PTP choices.  There's also a  USB connection type choice somewhere.  I'm not running the OEM ROM, so I can't look it up for you.

Any link for paranoid android rom?

Link to Paranoid Android development thread.

Link to grouper download page.  Download the newest stable release for your device.  3G  is Tilapia, wi-fi is grouper.

Link to gapps.

I just flashed PA 3.96.  When Android 4.3 came out, I flashed the stock ROM over my PA running on 4.2.2.  I immediately missed PA's full screen, PIE, customizable nav buttons, and PA's handy two touch airplane mode, reboot to recovery or fastboot, and screen capture options.

I agree with Barry and Jason.  I'm retired, too, and prefer the portability of a 7" tablet over that of a notebook/laptop.

Aren't there alternate methods of installing drivers with Wugfresh's toolkit?  Try installing the drivers again, or try loading drivers from Skipsoft's (Mark Skippen's) Google Nexus 7 Toolkit.

Those 4.3 factory images have been available for a couple of weeks already.  I downloaded the 4.3 factory image 7/27/2013, and upgraded my N7 to 4.3 that day.

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Re: File Manager Recommendation ?

I'm using a rooted Nexus 7.1 on 4.3, and am disappointed with almost all methods of moving files to and from my Windows 7 PC.  MTP is seriously sketchy  i get errors with Windows Explorer and with ADB push/pull commands. Files that seem to transfer correctly are filled with errors, and fail checksum checks. MTP leaves Windows Explorer showing files that were deleted or moved, or not showing files that are present.

Try using a wi-fi file transfer program, or (if rooted) using a USB flash drive or SD card as a transfer device. The latter method is what I used

FWIW, I use ES File Explorer & Root Explorer.

Sounds like they shipped you a mini-USB cable instead of a micro-USB cable. Stupid of them to risk losing a  customer over the price of a cable + shipping.

Google pushed an update July 11 that removed offline map caching. There was such an uproar of protest, Google promised a map caching button within 2 days. The button flashes on the map screen irregularly. The sure way to save a map is to type in "okay map" in the search box.

It does sound like a bad  connection somewhere. You may have to charge it with the dock. If you decide to sell it, I'm interested in it for parts.

tejas, that's being discussed on xda-developers right now.  People experiencing the boot lock seem to have non-OEM kernels and/or not the latest OEM boot.img.  So, get the latest boot.img, put it in your fastboot directory, and fastboot flash boot boot.img

engineer, lots of quirks, for sure.  Skipsoft's Google Nexus 7 toolkit can't handle insecure boots consistently. Clockworkmod backups are difficult to back up to my PC.  Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper doesn't work with 4.3.  Adaway disappeared, due to Google policy.  I had to sideload it from f-droid, since Google restore removed it.

User-level apps seem to run fine, and I haven't noticed any loss of speed.

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Re: New Nexus 7 as a GPS device?
« on: August 01, 2013, 09:46:33 AM »
You should be using the Google Maps for Android App that's installed on your N7, with Location Services all enabled.  Your N7 will work as a GPS as long as you download area maps to your N7, and/or you have an Internet connection.

There is no functioning reset button on the Nexus 7.  There is a fourth button inside the case when you remove the back of the N7, in line with the power and volume buttons.  The fourth button is labeled reset, but it's not connected to anything.

If you still have warranty coverage for your N7, this is the time to  use it.

When  you plug it in, turned off, a battery icon appears for ~15 seconds.  The amount of white in the icon shows the state of charge of the battery.  So, unplug it, and plug it back in to see how charged it is.

But is there any evidence the N7 can send HDMI video out the micro-USB/Slimport?
