I place no credibility in rumors, but Google needs to raise its game if it wants to remain a player. My $60 tv stick has a quad core 1.6 Ghz CPU, and gets Antutu scores in the mid-18000s, unmodified.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Nexus 7 not recognised in Windows 7 Explorer
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:53:32 AM »
Check Control Panel to see if your Win 7 computer recognizes your Nexus 7 as a device.

If it doesn't, you need to reinstall the device drivers. If it's recognized as a device, and Windows Explorer doesn't see it, you probably just need to reset your Nexus 7 's settings to get it recognized.

In Developer Options, make sure USB debugging is checked and turned on. In Storage, click on the 3 bar menu icon in the upper right corner, and click on USB computer connection, and connect as MTP or PTP.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Can the Nexus 7 read USB thumb drives?
« on: December 20, 2013, 01:18:41 AM »
An OTG cable and the Nexus Media Importer only allow you to read from USB flash drives and other media. Your Nexus 7 must be rooted in order to write to those media.

At Tigerdirect.com.  I just picked up a unit for my stepdaughter today.  They're $149, with a $30 rebate.  Sale goes to  the 22nd.

You should become a drop tester for Google /Asus, Barry!

I used Wugfresh to root my new Nexus a couple nights ago.  I used a Windows 8 laptop. It went smoothly. I had been using Wugs on my old xp box but couldn't get it to work this time. Adb kept reinstalling.. The pc won't show my nexus or files unless debugging is turned on.  Is that odd?

Barry,

It's SOP to set USB debugging on for full ADB functionality.

You need to install a custom recovery like Clockworkmod or TWRP using Wugfresh's toolkit.

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Re: Any limit on folder size?
« on: August 22, 2013, 05:41:39 PM »
Ext4

Ext4 stands for fourth extended file system.
It was introduced in 2008.
Starting from Linux Kernel 2.6.19 ext4 was available.
Supports huge individual file size and overall file system size.
Maximum individual file size can be from 16 GB to 16 TB
Overall maximum ext4 file system size is 1 EB (exabyte). 1 EB = 1024 PB (petabyte). 1 PB = 1024 TB (terabyte).
Directory can contain a maximum of 64,000 subdirectories (as opposed to 32,000 in ext3)
You can also mount an existing ext3 fs as ext4 fs (without having to upgrade it).
Several other new features are introduced in ext4: multiblock allocation, delayed allocation, journal checksum. fast fsck, etc. All you need to know is that these new features have improved the performance and reliability of the filesystem when compared to ext3.
In ext4, you also have the option of turning the journaling feature “off”.

Sign in to your Google Play Store account with your daughter's mobile device, and she'll have access to download all your apps, including the paid ones.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Can not connect to netflix.

Google Netflix 15001, and try the various tips - clearing cache, uninstalling and reinstalling Google Play Store.  I don't use Netflix.

Here's how I manually rooted my Nexus 7 (2012) after upgrading to Android 4.3.  I used Mark Skippen's Google Nexus 7 Toolkit to push the busybox binaries after rooting.  Mark recently moved, and his ISP failed him, but we're hoping he updates his toolkits soon.

FWIW, MTP is seriously sketchy (both before and after the 4.3 upgrade).  ADB push/pulls are also problematic.  I got my best results transferring files to a USB flash drive as the intermediary between my N7 and Win 7 PC.

You certainly wouldn't need LTE capability for gaming and reading.  If you have Internet where you'll be with your wife, then you can do your web browsing and make phone calls with Groove IP Lite.  I find enough free Internet access at fast food restaurants, shopping centers, airports, coffee shops, etc. that I won't buy an LTE device.

Paranoid Android hides them all in full screen mode.  Touch the screen in the correct area, and a PIE pops up with the navigation buttons, time, and battery status.
